How to measure your bracelet size

Ordering jewellery online means sizing can sometimes be difficult to determine, but measuring your wrist size at home is very straightforward and helps when you’re deciding which style to order. It also means you’ll be able to wear your bracelet as soon as it arrives and won’t have the hassle of returning it for a different size or style. OB Jewellery Buyer Lianna Sheppard explains how to measure your wrist for a bracelet so you can show off your new bangle as soon as it pops through your door.

Why is finding your bracelet size important?

Everyone has different sized wrists, so finding the right size bracelet makes sense – you don’t want your new piece digging in uncomfortably or slipping off your arm as you go about your day. ‘A bracelet or bangle should fit comfortably on the wrist but not easily move or get in the way of day-to-day activity,’ says Lianna.

‘We create our bracelets and bangles in a standard size so that they can easily be put on and removed, but are a comfortable fit for most people,’ she explains. ‘Our chain bracelets have a 2cm extender chain, which allows the customer to adjust as required.’

‘Most of our bracelets are cuffs, which means they have an opening on the back or front - depending on the design - to help you put it onto your wrist, but we do have some full bangles that slip on over the hand,’ says Lianna, ‘which is why knowing how to measure bracelet size is useful.’

Measuring your wrist for a bracelet

You can determine your bracelet size easily at home using a tape measure. ‘Simply wrap the tape around your wrist and round up the measurement to the nearest cm,’ explains Lianna. ‘You can also wrap paper or string around your wrist, cutting it to size and then laying this flat against a ruler to measure the length required that way.’

All of our bracelets, bangles and cuffs have sizing details within the product description on the website, so you’ll be able to see if the style you have your eye on will sit well on your wrist.

How to choose the right bracelet size for someone else

If you’re thinking about buying a bracelet as a gift for someone, asking for their wrist size will spoil the surprise, so Lianna recommends either opting for one of our adjustable chain bracelets and stacking bracelets, or thinking about a bangle with a hinged clasp so it’s less likely to slip off a slimmer wrist.

‘Our collection of friendship bracelets includes styles that are mostly adjustable or made to fit all,’ she says, ‘and you can buy one for each of you so that you can twin with your favourite person.’
