How to pair shoes with dresses: tips from our fashion stylist
The block heel
A block heel is incredibly hardworking when you’re after an extra bit of glam’, advises Lynda. Colourful, velvet or metallic, the best ones give us extra height with a sneaky platform. ‘We love styling pretty dresses or occasionwear with towering heels,’ says Lynda. Perfect for weddings or special events, our Esska heels are stylish and comfortable, and this metallic pair looks great with mini dresses.
The colourful trainer
'No longer relegated to the gym, trainers are here to stay and colourful styles are a focus this season,’ says Lynda. Add a casual twist to your favourite mini dress, or wear with a button-down shirt dress to continue the relaxed, work-ready look. Our pink and navy Gola trainers combine thick soles with contrasting suede panels for a refreshing update on a classic.
The natural clog
Wondering what the best shoes for dresses are besides heels or pumps? The clog is back and is more fashion-forward than ever. Their easy slip-on design is finished with a double buckle strap with an adjustable metal pin buckle, while the soft footbed and rubber sole offers extra comfort for all-day stepping. ‘Wear with a dress or a hyper-bright jumpsuit to add a contrasting tone,’ suggests Lynda.
The open-toe sandal
There will never be a summer where gladiator sandals don't nail your look every time, and these flatform sandals are a summer wardrobe essential that look great with a jumpsuit or midi dress. Easy to wear on the beach or on a casual day out, this gold pair adds a joyous pop of metallic that will keep your spirits high even if the temperature doesn’t match. With an open-toe design to show off that pedi, we’ve designed these with a leather sole and padded footbed (because comfort is king).
The Mary Jane
The shoe shape that will transition into autumn, the Mary Jane is a style that you’ll certainly want to show off. ‘With a closed toe and buckle fastening, these ballet flats go with anything from flowy maxi dresses to short minis,’ says Lynda. ‘And silver shoes are always a good idea in my book. They’re an easy way to add a bit of glamour to your everyday or evening look.’
The jelly shoe
After comfortable shoes to wear with dresses? Jelly shoes are back. Originally inspired by the the footwear of French Riviera fisherman, Melissa’s designs use their very own PVC, Melflex®, create flexible, comfortable and resistant shoes for all-day wear. Choose neutral or bright tones with added sparkle details to add a touch of nostalgia to your daytime dress.
The cowboy boot
Bring a touch of the wild west to your wardrobe with a pair of metallic cowboy boots – a trans-seasonal staple that will make an appearance all year round. With a pointed toe and curved ankle opening, this eye-catching pair is best worn with a summer dress in an A-line silhouette or layered with tights in the winter. ‘The best part? The small heel makes them a super-comfortable day-to-night shoe if you’re having too much fun to go home and get changed,’ says Lynda.
