Let’s brunch: 7 ideas for hosting an uplifting brunch at home

Brunch is always a good idea. Catching up, winding down and, of course, delicious breakfast foods, all come together to create the best start to the day. Hosting your own brunch at home is all about creating a joyful and welcoming atmosphere. All you need is good friends, tasty nibbles and impactful home accessories to set the scene. Luckily, the latter we can help with, as our newest range of bright, bold tableware will transform a simple meal into a memorable gathering. Here are seven easy steps to brunch heaven.

1. Set the scene

You’ll need the right foundation on which to prepare your brunch, so start with a bright, cheerful table. A crisp tablecloth and some placemats with an eye-catching print or colourful trim will invite people in and lift the mood.

Napkins are an often-overlooked detail that can add a touch of elegance to your table setting, especially if they’re accessorised with fun napkin rings.

2. Mix and match

Gone are the days of uniform table settings. At OB we always like to incorporate different patterns and textures with our tableware, to create a more personal and dynamic feel. Choosing pieces with similar tones but different print and shapes will add visual interest while keeping the laid-back feel that's perfect for brunch. Nothing should be too polished, as it’s far more relaxed than a formal dinner. A tie-dye plate alongside a speckled bowl, or a textured glass combined with a smooth ceramic dish will add a fun contrast that’s casual and welcoming.

3. Add a pop of colour

Your glassware is another opportunity to introduce interest and personality. Choose glasses in vibrant shades to bring out your tableware. If you’re hosting in the garden, coloured glassware will catch the sunlight, too. Again, mix different tones for a playful, informal effect, and fill a decorative jug with juice to sit alongside the pastries.

4. Bring in natural details

Natural touches make your brunch feel more inviting and relaxed. Enhance your table with fresh flowers in a colourful vase, sprigs of greenery dotted around the table, or even a bowl of brightly coloured fruit in the centre. Bud vases can be interspersed throughout the tableware without the fear of being knocked over as people reach for food, and bring splashes of colour.

5. Take it outside

If the weather gods are smiling and you’re hosting outdoors, colourful throws can be draped over an outdoor seating area to brighten up a patio or decked area. Or take your brunch onto the grass with a rug and scattered outdoor cushions and play some music in the background to create a relaxed, picnic-in-the-park feel.

6. Don't forget the details

It’s the small touches that show your guests you've put thought into your meal, making them feel special and creating a particular mood. Summer entertaining details such as decorative coasters, fun stacking glasses, quirky salt and pepper shakers or a scene-stealing gluggle jug for serving iced water can uplift and elevate.

7. Serve up in style

Finally, it's all about the food presentation. Serve up fresh fruit, vibrant salads, charcuterie and delicious pastries with bold serve ware and stylish serving dishes. The colours of the food will stand out against your table setting, making everything look even more appetising. And you’ll need a fresh pot of coffee or tea on the go, too, with some colourful mugs. A little jug for milk and a pretty glass for sugar will set off the hot beverage area nicely.
