The summer style guide: What to wear in hot weather
1. Lightweight dresses
From mini to midi, printed to plain, lightweight summer dresses are some of the most versatile pieces of clothing to have in your hot weather wardrobe. For styles that won’t stick to your skin, forget about anything bodycon and set your eyes upon loose A-line silhouettes, airy cut-out details and breezy fabrics.
2. Anything cotton
A natural fibre, cotton is one of the best fabrics for hot weather. It’s breathable, lightweight, and more cooling to wear than clothing made from synthetic materials. Having a few cotton pieces in your wardrobe is key – the best styles are staples such as short-sleeved shirts, loose summer tops, and floaty sundresses.
3. White denim
Although they're not the typical choice of clothes to wear in hot weather, jeans made from lightweight denim in neutral colours will reflect the heat away from your body and keep you cool. Look for wide-leg styles in a cropped trouser length – they're much breezier to wear than skinny jeans and will show off your sandals too.
4. Cool scarves
We know what you’re thinking, scarves in summer? Hear us out. These lightweight fabrics can be quite cool to wear in hot weather. Wrap a big scarf around your waist to use as a sarong on trips to the beach or lay on your shoulders if you’re going out to dinner on holiday. You can even incorporate a scarf into your updo to keep your hair off your face, while adding a pop of colour and pattern to your summer style.
5. Swishy separates
Something that will make your commute to the office - and air con - easier is getting your summer work outfit right. Keep your bottom half smart yet comfy in loose trousers or a flowy midi skirt. Pair it with a shirt for the office, then change into a light top for after-work fun.
6. Summer accessories
From sunglasses to sandals, crossbody bags to claw clips and beach totes to trainers, summer accessories will help you thrive in the hot weather while also keeping your outfit on-trend and stylish.
