Behind the designs of our Sol collection

With tropical prints, an optimistic yet nostalgic colour palette and a cool Californian vibe, our new Sol tea and coffee collection for SS21 brings some much-needed escapism into your kitchen. Read on to discover our designers’ inspiration behind these sunny tableware pieces.

The inspiration

In summer 2019, our homeware design team travelled to LA to gather ideas for this season’s designs. They visited galleries, boutiques and the famous Rose Bowl market, talking to different people to learn about laidback Californian life. A road trip to Palm Springs and The Joshua Tree National Park ignited their inspiration. “We drove there at sunset and experienced all the incredible colour changes of the landscape as the sun went down” says OB’s homeware print designer, Emily. “It was such a peaceful moment”.

The prints

In a warm colour palette with optimistic yet nostalgic shades, “the prints in the collection capture the natural, dreamlike beauty that we experienced in LA” says Emily. “We chose motifs that reflect the comforting warmth of a sunset – the sun and it rays against an organic landscape of palm trees, the desert, its plants and animals”.

The products

“The ritual of tea or coffee drinking should be enjoyed slowly and mindfully” says Emily. “We kept this in mind when designing the Sol collection – we wanted to create a tea range with meaning, one that encourages you to stay present, and gives you a little slice of LA paradise at home”.
