How to refresh wear and tear on furniture
Life is messy and beautiful and far from perfect. Sometimes you bash the corner of your coffee table and dent the wood or chip the paintwork. Or you absentmindedly leave a cup of tea on top of a chest of drawers and are left with a ring on the surface. When it comes to furniture and homeware, daily wear and tear is unavoidable, especially when you’ve invested in a piece you want to keep for years to come.
Luckily, there are ways to cover over nicks and dents and chips and rings, or even completely update and customise your furniture to create a whole new look*. The creative team at Oliver Bonas have lots of ideas for updating wear and tear on furniture and homeware, making it look as good as new – or even like a new design of furniture altogether.
Colour-match your paint
If you're thinking about touching up surface chips in wooden furniture with paint, it’s worth seeing if your local DIY or hardware store can colour-match the paint shade. Our customer service department recommends taking a drawer into the store with you so that the store assistants can mix as close a match as possible. Occasionally our CS Team are able to give more information on specific Oliver Bonas ranges, so get in touch to see how they can help you.
Get creative with vinyl wrap
‘We once completely updated the surface of an old table whose colour we'd got tired of by using vinyl wrap. It’s self-adhesive film you can get in all sorts of colours, prints and designs. You can use it to revamp a drawing cabinet in a home office, or cover up stains, marks, dents and paint chips on a desk. It gave our table a new lease of life and meant we kept hold of it for longer.’

Sand down the scuffs
Nicks, chips and scuffs in painted finishes and wooden furniture can often be lightly sanded down and varnished or repainted a whole new colour. A gentle sanding all over a piece can give a rustic, timeworn look that refreshes your whole décor scheme.
Customers should speak with our CS Team before making any repairs if a return, refund or exchange is needed.
